Day 91

An African broom. Street curbs and sidewalks are kept clean with a simple whisk broom such as this. Ladies are seen on the roadside early in the morning, and they continue to sweep all throughout the day. Curbs are swept, sidewalks are swept, dirt compounds are swept, and dirt parking lots are swept. All this sweeping is done by bending over at the waist, and reaching down with the short broom that has virtually no handle. It makes ones' back ache just to imagine being in that folded position for any length of time at all. Next time you pull out your Swiffer or your Home Depot push broom, be grateful!
