Day 84

Samosas (no, not the Girl Scout type), drinks, and waffles/muffins from the corner Alimentation Shop (aka your basic 7-11).

Brad tasted meat- or vegetable-filled samosas such as these during our first mission in Uganda in 2008. He was quite sure that he could convert the whole country to adapt their standard samosa recipe to one that included a fresh pineapple or banana filling (after all, those ingredients were abundant), along with a sweet dusting of powdered sugar on the outside (think your basic McDonald's deep-fried apple pie in that little rectangle box). He gathered a roomful of women from the branch and demonstrated his new recipe. Sadly, what seemed like a revelatory discovery to us was not shared by any other Ugandan in the room. Thus, he does not even try to convert any of our Rwandan friends to a potentially sweet improvement on the samosa. They are happy to stick with the standard fare.

Missionary, missionary, how does your garden grow?

Visiting the Missionary Garden each Saturday morning is a treat - the enthusiasm that these young men show for their project is so rewarding.
