Day 180

It's so hard to call which is our favorite type of humanitarian aid project to participate in! Giving clean water is certainly right up at the top of the list! Agnes (Hygiene Supervisor), me, and Peace (the cell leader) demonstrate how to use the borehole pump.

Brad, William (site monitor), and Vincent (district representative) give it a try.
I liked this cactus posing with dad.

Part of the training that Agnes did in this district is to teach each family to build a hand-washing station by their latrine. We were happy to see one built in nearly every yard as we drove through parts of the district today. A small jerry can is mounted on some sticks and filled with water. The user steps on a stick on the ground which is attached to the mouth of the open jerry can by a string. The string tightens and "pulls" or "tips" the jerry can so that a small amount of water pours into the user's hands.

The Africans sport this man's face in every country we have been in on this continent...shirts, back-packs, store signs...

You can never be too warm in Rwanda! Where are my Uggs???

Dad and Agnes demonstrate how to use the hand-washing station (they are also known as Tip Taps...you step on the stick to Tip the jerry can, and it is a hands-free Tap!)
