Day 137

I distinctly remember standing in the Addis Ababa Airport in 2009, waiting for  arriving missionaries from Kampala. To pass the time, we would read the exotic names of cities on the arrival and departure boards. Lubumbashi, Kinshasa, Dar Es Salaam, Zanzibar, Washington DC (my heartbeat increased when I read that one)...BUJUMBURA....WHERE IS THAT? Turns out that it is a mere 25 minutes' flight south of Rwanda, and the capital of Burundi. It is also our destination for today. We are traveling there to continue work on a water project that was started by the Humanitarian couple in DR Congo, but has now been assigned to us. You can make out the lake behind the bicyclist.

Bujumbura is located on the eastern shore of Lake Tanganyika, which Mark will point out is the second largest fresh water lake in the world, and apparently has vendors that sell ice cream from these quaint little tricycles along its shore. We stayed in an empty apartment next door to the only missionary couple in Burundi - The Burtons, who, coincidentally, we met in the MTC back in August. They showed us around, fed us, and kept us company.
