Day 60

Leap Year! We traveled south of Kigali for just under an hour to visit two genocide memorials. This picture is of the memorial at Ntarama where 5,000 Tutsis took refuge in this Catholic church. Sadly, over a two-day period of April 15 and 16, 1994, they were all killed. The grenade blasts left holes in the building which are evident in this picture.

The grim reminder of those who were killed in the genocide is difficult to view.
