Day 54

Here's Brad bringing "Christmas in February" to the opthamology department at Central Hospital for the University of Kigali!

Drs. Valerie, Godelieve, and Theobald were delighted to receive cataract equipment through the Church's Vision project. Dr. Christiansen from Utah trained several opthamologists on the usage of this vision equipment back in May 2011. The project shipped medical equipment and eyeglasses (19,000 pairs!) to Rwanda last week. We picked it all up, and are now playing Santa as we deliver it to various hospitals throughout the country.

Delighted is too weak of a description for the emotions displayed by the doctors when they opened the box that contained their autoclave, which is used for sterilization of their surgical equipment.

It is hard to imagine what the reaction will be from the surgeons when their retinal laser machine arrives in 4 or 5 months! When that machine is delivered, the church is sending a retinal specialist who is French-speaking to teach how to use the machine. We are so lucky to be able to participate in this wonderful project.
