Day 185

Here I am delivering reading glasses to eye clinician, Donatien at Byumba District Hospital. It is about 90 minutes north of Kigali, and is a beautiful drive through green hills and farmland. We left with him a direct ophthalmoloscope used for eye exams in the refugee camp nearby - Gihembe Camp. He will work with the physician at the camp in order to train him how to use this piece of equipment. We delivered a Lensometer to this hospital in February, and asked Donatien how it had been working for him. Turns out he has never used it, as the plug is 3-prong for the U.S., and no one has an adaptor for it in the entire hospital!!! He asked for the cost of an adaptor to be included in the hospital's budget, which can take months. Yikes! We're going to have to drive back up there with an adaptor so he can use the machine.
