Day 117

Today was another fun day - we opened 5 more latrines at Kiziba Camp. When I say it is located up on the top of the green hills surrounding Lake Kivu - only pictures can do justice to its beautiful location.
Two of the guys who make sure the latrines are built correctly (Brad: manages the project, and Mark: construction company).
My job is to blow up balloons, hang signs, label things, and take photos of (and sometimes with) the people.
President Joseph is the elected leader of the refugees. The camp has an organized governing system. Joseph says a few words at each of the "latrine handovers", will encourage his people to care for the latrines, and was eager to take us into his home to meet his family. I think you can tell which U.S. political party they are aligned with!

  1. Thank you for clarifying what exactly your "job" entails... I mean, being the project manager is pretty important but blowing up balloons is a lot tougher than you think! And then you add in hanging signs and labeling things and WOW! I just don't know how you do it AND keep looking good for all the photo ops! You are amazing!
